Editorial August 2024

I had planned to start this editorial with “Thank You Mister Biden,” but current events have made France stand out for its great disorganization. Paris has been turned into a prison city and failed to foresee the very probable actions of enemy agents, which overshadowed the Olympic Games ceremony by attacking the French railway network. For the Macron government, which primarily fears protests against their policy during the Olympics, we can imagine Macron’s rage. Known for his fiery temperament, he was counting on this ceremony to strut like King Louis XIV before a host of international media to be praised… But it was a failure!

In reality, the organization of these festivities is a series of blunders of all kinds, from barcodes not sent on time to contradictory information given to law enforcement, who are almost as numerous as the public. As a result, many people prefer to watch the ceremony on television rather than face the chaos on site, due to poor preparation. This is true not only for many French people but also for the British and other Europeans.

On the US side, we can only commend Mr. Biden for the tremendous work done during his presidency. While his geopolitical stance, especially regarding Israel, may not be universally approved and has led many young people to turn away from him, the economy is doing perfectly well. Overall, he has succeeded in calming and reassuring the population and had the wisdom to pass the torch to Kamala Harris in a speech that will go down in history:

For all Democrats, Kamala Harris arrives like a breath of fresh air, combining humor with intelligence. She has a spotless career, free from scandals, and delivers perfectly structured speeches, earning the respect of her opponents. In short, she is the exact opposite of the Republicans’ contender. Kamala Harris has managed to raise donations like never before, with support from George Clooney, the Obamas, and many others. Clearly, the Republicans did not see this coming, and Trump’s vulgar invectives are a revealing sign of this. Those who doubted the vice president are now proven wrong; her discreet and reliable vice presidency does not prevent her from taking the spotlight, unlike Trump, who now takes a back seat. Former President Trump is now the old man mocked by the entire web, also having moments of absence and delivering rambling and incoherent speeches. It remains to be seen whether this is due to his old age or something else. We will follow with interest the developments of these presidential challengers because, without a doubt, we are only at the beginning of our surprises, and the upcoming period promises to be particularly exciting.
