Macally Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard for Mac, but not only!

After being deeply disappointed with our Logitech MX keyboard—which, during its brief three-year lifespan, was plagued by constant Bluetooth disconnections, poorly designed keys unsuitable for extensive typing, and a battery that barely lasted two days, necessitating frequent recharges—it was time for a change.

What were the selection criteria for a new keyboard?

First and foremost, it needed to connect via Bluetooth without requiring a USB dongle and remain compatible with older Macs. This immediately ruled out Apple’s prohibitively expensive keyboards. Meanwhile, a brand I had long been familiar with caught my attention: Macally, a Chinese manufacturer well-known among Mac users for its longstanding production of peripherals tailored to the Apple ecosystem.

A promising start: after fully charging the battery, pairing the keyboard was effortless. Simply initiate Bluetooth device discovery on the Mac, hold down the (P) key on the keyboard, and the Macally keyboard will appear on the list of available devices.

Another noteworthy feature is the power switch, discreetly placed at the top right corner. However, its near-invisible design makes it somewhat tricky to locate at first, as it can easily be mistaken for an LED indicator.

As for the typing experience, the keyboard is pleasant to use and well-suited for work, though it suffers from being excessively noisy—quieter keys would have been a welcome improvement. Fortunately, this minor flaw is compensated by its seamless Mac integration. Although also compatible with Windows, the transition to Android should be smooth as well. A particularly convenient addition is a dedicated print key—eliminating the need for the usual (Command + P) shortcut—a small but significant time-saver.

But where this keyboard truly shines is in its function keys. Whether scrolling through pages, taking screenshots, or executing other commands, everything works flawlessly—practical, efficient, and thoughtfully designed.

Final Verdict: 3/5 Stars

The only major drawbacks are the use of somewhat lower-end components and the inability to replace the battery once it reaches the end of its lifespan. For these reasons, the keyboard earns a respectable but not stellar 3 out of 5 stars.

Pros:

✔️ Pleasant typing experience
✔️ Efficient and useful function keys
✔️ Fast battery charging
✔️ Includes a USB cable
✔️ Reasonable price
✔️ Sleek design

Cons:

❌ Non-replaceable battery
❌ Typing noise is too loud
