Two Months with the Apple Magic Mouse 2

Having been burned by the first iteration of this type of mouse, which was notoriously energy-hungry, we switched to Logitech’s so-called premium range. However, the experience proved disappointing: it was just as power-hungry and unreliable under heavy use.

Thus, we returned to Apple’s mice. At first glance, they may seem overpriced, but for those who rely heavily on mouse clicks, they are arguably the best on the market.

The Magic Mouse 2 shines when it comes to battery life. That said, it’s wise to make a habit of charging it at the end of each week. Let the battery run down completely, and you may find that your Mac’s Bluetooth no longer recognizes it. In such cases, you’ll need another mouse to reconnect the Magic Mouse—a peculiar but seemingly consistent issue.

Much ink has been spilled over one of its glaring design flaws: the charging port located underneath the mouse. Who at Apple thought this was a good idea? Thankfully, USB charging docks allow you to charge the mouse in a more practical way. Still, given the mouse’s price, one would expect Apple to include such a dock as standard.

Beyond this oddity, the Magic Mouse 2 excels in every other respect. Whether you’re working with text, photo editing, graphic design, or music production—anything requiring precision and reliability—only Microsoft’s high-end mice come close in quality.

In daily use, the Magic Mouse 2 also helps combat muscle fatigue. Its overall design seems thoughtfully updated; it feels remarkably comfortable in hand and is built to last. The question remains whether it will surpass three years of intensive use. By comparison, our Logitech MX mouse became nearly unusable after a year of heavy work: frequent recharging every two days, increasingly imprecise clicks, difficulty selecting text areas—everything eventually became problematic, even something as basic as a single click. And yet, the MX is only marginally cheaper than Apple’s offering.
